How to fill gap nights in your vacation rental calendar
Gap nights are the one- and two-night orphans between confirmed bookings that nobody wants. The Reservations skill finds them, ranks them by revenue at risk, and recommends a specific play for each one.
Step by step
Load the Reservations skill
In Claude.ai, create a Project, paste the Reservations SKILL.md into the Project instructions and save. Or run
npx github:msg2ai/vacationrental-team-skills installonce and Claude Code picks the right skill from your prompt.Find the gaps
Identify gap nights — 1–2 night windows between confirmed bookings — for the next 60 days, sorted by RevPAR-loss potential.
Pick a play per gap
For each gap, Claude recommends one of: drop the minimum-stay rule, reduce ADR by a set percentage, run a 24-hour flash discount, send it to a last-minute segment list, or offer it to a repeat guest.
Draft the copy
Get the channel-update copy and the guest-list outreach message ready to send.
Hand off and execute
Action items go to Marketing & Distribution for flash-discount campaigns. Calendar and rule changes go through the channel manager.
Prevent the next gaps
Tune minimum-stay rules by property, season and day of week (for example, a 3-night minimum on summer weekends for beach properties, 2 nights Monday–Thursday) and track the gap-night fill rate monthly.

What you get back
- A gap-by-gap recommendation: drop min-stay, flash discount, last-minute list
- Channel-update copy and guest outreach drafts
- A min-stay rules sheet for the next quarter
Tips from the skill
- Calendar updates always go through the channel manager — never edit channels directly except for emergency conflict fixes.
- Don't quote stale rates: pricing comes from the Marketing & Distribution slice.
