What are the Vacation Rental Team Skills?

Eight free, open-source Claude Skills — one for every seat in a vacation-rental property management office: General Manager, Reservations, Owner Relations, Marketing & Distribution, Housekeeping & Maintenance, Finance & Trust, and Guest Experience, plus a Vibe Coder that ships the direct-booking site. Install one skill or all eight; each is self-contained.

What is a Claude Skill?

A skill is a SKILL.md file: plain markdown that briefs Claude on one role — what it does, how it works, and which tools it connects to. Claude Code loads skills automatically from ~/.claude/skills/ and picks the right one from your prompt. In Claude.ai you paste the file into a Project's instructions. Codex and Cursor can use the same file as a system prompt (AGENTS.md or a project rule).

Who are the skills for?

Vacation-rental and short-term-rental property management companies. The sweet spot is an office running 30–300 properties on Airbnb, VRBO, Booking.com and direct, where a small team is covering all eight roles.

How do I install Claude Skills?

Four ways. No install: paste a SKILL.md into a Claude.ai Project's instructions. One command: run npx github:msg2ai/vacationrental-team-skills install (needs Node.js 18+ and Git) to put all eight into ~/.claude/skills/ for Claude Code. Or load the cloned repo as a Claude Code plugin with claude --plugin-dir, or git clone it into ~/.claude/skills/ yourself.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. The browser path is just copy-paste into Claude.ai. The whole reason these are 'skills' rather than software is that the work happens in plain English — yours, going in, and Claude's, coming back.

What if our team is not technical?

That's the most common case. Use the Claude.ai browser path. Each team member loads whichever skill matches their role and starts a conversation — no terminal, no install. The Vibe Coder skill is the only one that benefits from someone who can hit the keyboard, and even there, the Vercel preview URL is what most people review.

Can I install just one skill?

Yes. Each skill is self-contained. Copy a single SKILL.md into a Claude.ai Project, or install all eight with npx and let Claude Code pick the right one per prompt.

What does it cost?

The skills are free, open source (MIT). You pay for Claude — Claude.ai has a free tier and a $20/mo Pro plan that covers most offices. AI Ambassador is a separate paid product (and the only piece the Guest Experience skill leans on heavily).

Do the skills work with Airbnb, VRBO and Booking.com?

They are written around OTA workflows: inquiry triage and pre-approvals, listing optimization, channel health (response rate, acceptance rate, Superhost, Premier Host and Genius status), OTA payout reconciliation, and damage programs such as AirCover. Live booking data comes in through your channel manager or the exports you paste in.

Which channel managers and tools do they connect to?

The skills name Hostaway, Guesty, OwnerRez, Hostfully and Lodgify as channel managers; PriceLabs, Wheelhouse and Beyond for dynamic pricing; Schlage, August, igloohome and RemoteLock smart locks; plus Gmail / AgentMail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Twenty or Zoho CRM, QuickBooks Online or Xero, Stripe, ClickUp or Asana, Canva, Zoom, Firecrawl and Vercel.

Do I have to connect integrations?

No. The skills work without any integrations. Connecting the tools your office already uses — channel manager, pricing engine, smart locks, CRM — lets them pull real bookings, send real owner statements and dispatch real work orders. You only connect what helps.

What is the shared Knowledge Base?

One shared folder every skill reads from and writes to — usually Google Drive, or Dropbox, OneDrive / SharePoint / Box, or Notion. It uses a canonical structure (portfolio brief, brand and voice, properties, owners, channels, housekeeping, finance and trust, guests, meeting notes, web). The General Manager skill creates it if you don't have one, and can seed it from your Airbnb host profile or direct-booking site using Firecrawl.

Do the skills work together?

Yes — they share context through the Knowledge Base. When you ask the General Manager for the monthly investor briefing, it pulls KPIs from Reservations, payouts from Finance, and listing health from Marketing. Each SKILL.md lists what it receives from and hands off to the other roles.

Will Claude make things up about my properties or my owners?

Claude will produce a plausible draft from whatever context you give it. The skills are written to ask for the missing pieces first — # of properties, markets, channel mix, fee structure — before producing output. Treat the first response as a strong first draft, not a final answer. Owner statements, tax filings, and refund decisions should always be reviewed by a human before sending.

Will Claude send owner statements on its own?

The Owner Relations skill drafts the send-with-statement email when Gmail or AgentMail is connected, but is written not to send until the GM or Finance lead approves. Always review owner statements, tax filings and refund decisions before they go out.

Is my owner and guest data safe?

Your conversations stay in your Claude account. The skills don't send anything anywhere on their own — the only data Claude sees is what you paste or what's reachable through integrations you choose to connect (channel manager, Gmail, Drive, etc.). Treat owner contracts, guest PII, and trust-account data with the same caution you would in any AI tool: redact what you don't need to share.

Can it handle trust accounting and occupancy taxes?

The Finance & Trust skill runs daily balance checks and a weekly 3-way trust reconciliation (flagging any variance over $1), builds owner payouts and per-property P&Ls, reconciles OTA payouts, prepares occupancy / lodging / sales tax filing worksheets per jurisdiction, and tracks STR permits. Its output is a draft — have your bookkeeper or accountant review it.

How does the Guest Experience skill relate to AI Ambassador?

The Guest Experience skill is powered by AI Ambassador for Vacation Rentals, an SMS / WhatsApp guest concierge from MSG2AI with no app download and 126 languages. The skill configures the pre-arrival sequence and the per-property answers; AI Ambassador is a separate paid product and is optional.

Can Claude build our direct-booking website?

That's the Vibe Coder skill. It ships the direct-booking site, per-property landing pages, the owner lead-capture page, the owner portal and per-market SEO pages with Next.js, GitHub and Vercel, and targets Lighthouse 95+.

Can I use the skills with Codex or Cursor?

Yes. Each SKILL.md is plain markdown. In OpenAI Codex CLI, save it as AGENTS.md in your project. In Cursor, save it as a project rule in .cursor/rules/ and make sure the rule is active.

How do I update or uninstall the skills?

Run npx github:msg2ai/vacationrental-team-skills update to get the latest version, npx github:msg2ai/vacationrental-team-skills list to see all eight, and npx github:msg2ai/vacationrental-team-skills uninstall to remove them.

What license are the skills under?

MIT — free to use, modify and redistribute, including for commercial property management. Attribution is appreciated but not required.
